I wrote this a couple weeks ago in preparation for my panel at Rocky Mountain Fur Con on the subject of understanding light and form. This barely brushes the basics, but I hope is enough to get some of you started! It is sort of roughly written, and this information (and more) can be found all…
For all those people that constantly ask “is using a reference cheating?”
No, it’s not. THEY’RE THERE, USE THEM. Using a reference is not tracing, it’s cool.
This is cute AND accurate! 8D
Seeing the rage generated from the typo. I will forever now put one in each how to I do just to drive you grammar weirdos nuts
“Know what you’re drawing”
Because seriously, I’ve seen someone insist a picture of a tree weasel was a picture of a cat. Really. Also I’m kinda tired of cat-faced dogs and same-dog when it comes to furry art. I once was drawing a commissions I thought was a regular wolfish-dog, buuuuut it was a bull terrier. So I hoped on google and fixed that picture, and the client loved it and everyone could tell it was a terrier and not another wolf-fox-genro-canine.
Reference is okay guys. It doesn’t make you a lesser artist. It makes you a better artist to reference your subject. Theres also a difference between referencing and copying. :|
This topic can bring up a lot of emotions for artists who use all types of mediums, so in reading this if you choose to respond, I ask that you do your best to keep your emotions in check. I will do my best to do the same while writing this entry. I want to note, this is about digital PAINTING,…

*Disclaimer* I’m reblogging this for various reasons. One, she is a fantastic artist. Two she is an awesome artist. Three, artists need to stick together and help each other out. Four, there is some amazing artwork out there I’d love to share with you. :) Five, free art. ;) Six, I love dragons and werewolves. XD
I don’t really have a specific unique style. At least I don’t think I do.
One of my college room-mates told me once that my line and art style reminded them of the animated film “Titan AE”. I still don’t see it.
My line style is loose and flexible, and can range from very cartoon-like to a bit more realistic. *shrugs*
This year’s All Hallow’s Read posters. Spread the word, and share the love of reading!
I’m pretty sure no one reads my blog, BUT if someone does, and that someone comes to my bookstore (Eljay’s Books in Dormont) and they say “Hey Chris, I saw your tumblr, give me a horror book” I will let them pick out two of the $2.50 paperbacks (or I can pick them out) from the horror section. One to give to a friend, one to read for All Hallows Read. So there.
When in Pittsburgh, go to this bookstore!!!
Commission slot: Live Stream Sketch Slots
$5.00* by Drakenhart
SIMPLE CHARACTER SKETCHES
Original hand-drawn artwork done in a digital medium, streamed live so you can watch it grow, change, and develop as I work on it.
Streaming will happen in the evenings (EST) unless we can settle on a different day. I will not accept the job until the day of the stream. All sketches are simple, single character sketches. They follow the same rules as the basic single character sketch, the only difference is that they are a digital medium and can be sent to you immediately. So no waiting for the post! Style maybe cartoon-ish, or very simple line art.
